He is right on. The CP4 HPFP is marketed for euro spec fuel and not US spec fuel. FWIW, I started using an additive when instructed by the Ford service manager when I owned the 6 liter Powerstroke with all the injector issues. I have continued using Stanadyne in every tank in the Duramax...which uses the same pump.
Also, FWIW, low sulfur fuel is prone to bacterial blooms. If you start getting change fuel filter messages...that is a likely place to start looking...I just had the problem and a power service biocide additive fixed it.
I tow heavy and a lot. I wish I didn't need a diesel, but I do. They are a pain in the a$$.

Cmon blofgren, I'm not a Ford nut swinger, but reccomended fuel additive? Seriously, it's a truck. Pull up to the pump and fill it up from the right colored nozzle and leave. Use a credit card then you don't have to stuff the door pocket full of receipts.
He may have something there! The guy I bought my 98 12V from replaced it with a 01.5 RAM and I kept telling him to keep an eye on his fuel pressure to protect his VP44 injection pump. He always thought i was full of it. Well I spoke to him recently he has the original lift and injection pump at 345K. He has used AMZ/OIL fuel conditioner in every tank since new!
If I had a Ford with the CP4 I would run the same!
The CP4 is designed for Ultra Low Sulphur diesel whereas the CP3 was designed for Low Suphur diesel so perhaps if I had a CP3 pump with the associated injectors that are prone to failure I would consider running a diesel additive.
I have 103k miles and my truck makes better fuel economy more than ever so I don't foresee an issue anytime soon.
