Bosch built the CP4 for a Euro fuel standards, with a minimum scar rating of 460 or below.
Problem is test have shown US fuel averages over 500 scar and very loose regs means fuel often tests much higher, into the 700 range.
Bosch themselves said fuel with a scar rating of 500 would reduce expected pump life to 1000hrs.
They have since made the pumps more compatible with US fuels, but as with anything with moving parts it will eventually wear out and fail. When CP4 fail, the whole fuels system goes with it.
Rarely is this the case with a CP3 failure.
If had an early 6.7 PSD i would be using additive and planning on either replacing the HPFP or converting to a CP3 as Ford is not covering failures. Despite findings they blame failures on water in the fuel and tell owners to pound sand.
There's a lot of incorrect information posted by another fan boy... In addition I've read where there has been some CP4.2 pumps replaced that didn't send shrapnel into the fuel system.
And just what is incorrect?
