Diesel vs Gas? What I've found over the years is that any of the V8s will get the rig moving OK(torque) but what you want to pass or accelerate at driving speed is horsepower. Thus what is the horsepower at 4,000 - 5,000 RPM? I traveled in a caravan to Alaska and could beat any of the diesel rigs up a hill with my gasser. Granted the mileage will be better with a diesel but as someone mentioned above, with the cost of diesel being higher there might not be a cost/mile advantage. There typically is more quarts of oil in the diesel and higher maintenance costs for the diesel (think oil change frequency). Also add the cost of DEF for the diesel. Just some thoughts to consider as you make your decision. My 7,800 lbs gross weight trailer is OK with my Ram 1500 Hemi but I wouldn't consider it for a trailer your size.
