The disadvantage of mounting it higher is the reduced airflow to your radiators. When my cooling fan went out, I was able to cross the length South Dakota in the summer with just forced air cooling. If I had the generator disrupting this flow, I would have had to made repairs when it was less convenient and more expensive instead of being able to schedule ahead and have a part waiting for me.
I also try to park in the back of lots and am too long to fit in one spot - Typically I will pull up the front so I am nosed out and the rear will be hanging 5-10' into the spot behind me. I don't let my nose stick out so far that someone will clip it while maneuvering in the lot.
