This " Hensley Bump" has me curious, but i'm sure i'll get able to adjust the brake controller and my driving style to work with it. Otherwise i'm excited, I've been waiting six months to order this damn thing!
I tried an HA for a while with my current diesel. The 'bump' was annoying when the exhaust brake was on. Almost always had the bump when decelerating. I have a Ram CTD and the exhaust brake is rather aggressive. On a gasser you can just dial in the TT's brakes to remove it. Not so with a diesel and EB. I used the HA with both gasser and CTD. No issues with the gasser. You will like it. It totally removes any sway from the TT. I bought mine used and sold it for $50.00 less than I paid for it.
That’s something I was wondering about…the “bump” when the exhaust brake does its thing. Was it just annoying or was it something more serious?
Never serious, just slightly annoying. Sometimes it as a little spooky since it didn't do it every time, just most of the time and I would get caught off guard. The fact that Ram has the best or most aggressive EB in the newer trucks didn't help either. I think if a guy turned the EB off and just used the brakes in normal driving it wouldn't be a problem. Use the EB when descending mtn passes. But then that sorta negates having the EB as it provides a good portion of the braking. I often just letup on the gas pedal and let the EB do it's thing while towing. And that's where the annoying part comes in.
The spooky part was when coming into a corner and letting up on the gas and the EB kicks in and right in the middle of the corner it bumps, that's the annoying part.
I feel it's more of a Ram thing with the newer trucks and Rams EB. As I've never hardly read about the bump being bothersome to other diesels.
