Just pulled the trigger!

I've got a 31 foot Open Road Zander my Silverado 2500 DD pulls it quite nicely. A little slow up steep grades. I just bought mine last august.

Im pulling 7,000lbs with mine, you will be fine.

I just looked up your new camper on the Internet. Nice camper. Just a word of caution. We love our Outback. But the inside stove is in the corner like your's is. When you use the stove, that corner will get very hot. The wood, the cover, the walls, everything.

Our's has a window behind the stove and sink. The blinds are aluminum Venetian. But the plastic stick to rotate the aluminum fins melted into a pretzel the first time we used the stove. Actually, we did not use the stove for cooking, we used it to help fast-heat the camper (which by the way, works very well when you need to heat up fast!).

But your model has the outside kitchen, so hopefully you'll not have a need to use the stove. When you do, just beware the walls around the stove get very hot!

Congrats on your new purchase ... by the way, I don't think you'll have any problems with your tow vehicle and this camper! Enjoy!

Edit: To shape the blind plastic stick back in place, I turned on all 3 burners and heated that corner again. When the plastic heated enough, I was able to just shape it straight again. You'd never know it once looked like a twisted pretzel!

2500HD Crew Cab 6.0L V-8 - Towing Capacity 8000# / GCWR 16,000#

Now I don't know what towing capacity your owner's manual states, or your rear end ratio is capable of.

The truck itself has the following capacities per Nada Guides:

Curb Weight 5,760 lbs
Gross Vehicle Weight Rating 9,200 lbs
Max Payload 3,440 lbs

Based on Jayco's specs:

Unloaded Vehicle Weight (lbs) 7,590
Dry Hitch Weight (lbs) 870
Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (lbs) 9,975
Cargo Carrying Capacity (lbs) 2,385

Those towing capacity numbers are simply inaccurate. Per owners manual towing cap for my truck is 9800lbs.
And that's because the 4L80E transmission holds it back.
Chevrolet made the 1500HD that year also. It was rated to pull 7,900 with the 3:73 rear end. They have it with a higher number than the 2500HD.

Look at the numbers for the same truck, but an EXT cab instead of CC. It shows a 10,600lb towing cap.
That's a 2,600lb difference going from a CC to a EC. That make sense to you?

Maybe not inaccurate but misleading. When I saw that I wondered what the rear end was and since they likely did not have only one rear end ratio l figured that must be just for one of the ratios. In the more recent Guides they say what rear end gives what rating.

Glad to see that your truck has a higher capacity than 8000# but now that you mentioned your 9800# capacity I still think you have to watch your weight since you trailer's unladen weight already puts your truck at 80% of its rated towing capacity. My truck is supposedly good for 9600# but I would not want to go there, especially on anything but totally flat terrain.

Congrats on the new TT. Loaded to camp our 32BHDS weighs 9300lbs. We tow with a V-10 Excursion. Steep hills slow us down, but we have camped Maine to Florida and have not had any issues.

I wouldn't worry about your truck. You will be using it doing exactly what it was designed to do: do work making power at high RPM's.

Granted Diesel would be better, but that 2500 gasser will be just fine.

If it didn't come with a Class V receiver, you may want to look into changing that. Very small cost to get plenty of TW margin in the receiver limit.
