Just weighed in.

OK, here is what we did. I wanted to limit the new trailer to be towed by '14 silverado 1500 as we use this for every day vehicle too. Wife found a Coleman 268rk model that suits us for floor plan needs. I looked at the numbers and figured the 1500 could pull it just fine and safely too. Truck gvw is 7200, each axle is rated at 3950 and combined gross is 15000. Just came from the scales and drive axle is 3340, steer axle is 3300, trailer axle is 5900 and gross combined is 12540. Trailer was loaded for travel WITH SOME WATER in the fresh tank, maybe 20 gallons (I was sanitizing it). This just confirmed for me that you don't need overkill on your TV.
  • Sounds like you did your homework and used some common sense in matching your combo.
    Good job...Enjoy and be safe:)

Yes, you showed that your truck is very capable of doing the job it was built for. BUT, on this forum, if you tow a popup or larger, the weight police REQUIRE a 1T minimum and many of them say only an MDT will be safe to tow with........It is a shame that some of them can NOT understand a truck "certified" to tow a certain amount with the proper carrying capacity is safe and comfortable to do the job. No I am not adding a smiley, because the weight police are not cute, they are annoying when a person tries to do the job correctly and they won't mind their own business.

You have done your homework and have a good fit, for you. We too have dumped our 1T diesel and are very satisfied towing 10K with our 1500 NHT package. It is within specs and does the job admirably.
  • Those numbers look good and it looks like a nice combination. It's always nice to have room for a little extra firewood and beer :)
