To the op. I don think this is foolish purchase. Your doing solid research. Sounds like you will get some use out of it. Buying used is a great idea for reasons already discussed. You arent in a hurry and have cash so if/when you decide to purchase you have the leverage to negotiate a great deal at a great price.
