I have two kayaks, one 10' and one 12', about 50 lbs each. I don't mind climbing on the roof to haul them but SWMBO minds that I do. I'd much rather haul them on the roof than deal with a trailer. As far as cranking the roof up with 100 lbs on it.....no. When I first had my TC, I put at least 100 lbs in a cargo rack on the roof. It took two of us to get the roof up, one pushing up and one cranking.
I like the idea of the vertical carrier rack but my kayaks are too long.
I don't really have any use for a utility trailer but given the cost of a kayak-specific trailer, I might go that way. Having towed an 18' boat in the past, I remember the parking/backing/turning logistics and don't look forward to doing it again.
