Thanks bka0721 for the info. As I see you realized I have little knowledge as far as wood science. I’m just a cut, glue and screw guy lol. As far as the knots I’m having a hard enough time finding straight wood much less any wood with limited knots. Besides trying to add some strength with 1x4 I have found them to stay fairly straight. I have more than a few 1x2s that look more like hockey sticks than building lumber. Because of the difficulties I have had trying to find “good” lumber I have decided to not replace as much lumber as originally planned and treat some of the pieces that have more visual than structural problems. If someone could remind me the name of the treatment members have used. I thought it was brought up earlier in this thread but I haven’t been able to find it. I think it was suggested by some who have rebuilt boats.
I have also added one of the blue jigs from Lowes mentioned earlier to my tool collection, I hope everyone will forgive my bad memory. I was rebuilding the right front corner where the jack mounts and the area around the fridge vent and propane opening this week, I’ll post pictures when I have time, and discovered that little jig will probably come in handy. I haven’t used it yet but there were some tight places I had to get the drill into it would have helped greatly.
Oh and most of the wood has been cut by hand. I'm usually working in the late night/early morning time so unless it is a larger cut I use the mitter box and saw.
