Lance Pigtail

The Lance OEM Pigtail seems pretty fragile -- the female pin connector has now broken out of the camper side wiring harness three times - this will be four ...

I'm a little tired of buying a new pigtail - since it's not repairable as I can see - so, $40 each time. That's getting old. I'm planning on installing the regular seven pin slot connector and changing out the bed plug this time. I know, it's got the heavy gauge wire in the charge side - but that does no good if it breaks. Last time it was the lights, this time the charging line.

I'd expect I'm not the only one with this issue - anyone have a good solution? I'd think Lance would correct this if it happens a lot. I'm pretty careful with it as it's not the first one, and I don't like burning $40 each time. :( :(

AND: Lance Home OFFICE doesn't answer or return phone calls or emails - so, will do my parts and repairs elsewhere in the future.
  • You might go to the Lance Owners of America (LOA) site and ask your questions there. I have had a Lance camper for close to two years but never had troubles with their plug but I have only offloaded a half dozen times.
  • We offload a lot - both at home to do maintenance and on our camping trips so we can use the truck. Probably at least fifty or more times a year, so it gets a workout. But if you look at the interior of the plug -- after it breaks, you can't see how fragile it is until it breaks -- then the piece slips out and is very thin. No way to repair it, just have to buy a new one.

Thanks about LOA, I forgot about that site. Will go there
  • There is a 9 pin connector that looks similar to the 7 pin but it will take a larger gauge wire. Check here http://www.etrailer.com/Wiring/Pollak/PK12906.htm
  • How the heck are you doing that? My connector is 8 years old and is fine. I always grab it right at the bed plug and there is enough length in the cable that there is always about 2 feet of slack left even when I have pulled the truck 3 feet forward to get access.

If I knew, I'd stop it. My truck is tall (or I'm short?) and I have a small block that I pull out and step up on to plug it in or unplug it.

But if you've ever seen the connector inside the Lance female end - you can only see it after it breaks - you'll see how fragile it is ... one very thin flat copper connection.
