If price is your measure of success and your goal is to make the dealer squirm, you are simply kidding yourself.
There is a price the dealer will not go below period. When you buy a TT the dealer made money. True, the dealer might have wanted to make more but if he sold it too you he made enough.
Also keep in mind that at the current annual volume of 500,000 TTs and 5ver sales, a well established dealer knows that if you do not buy it someone else will.
As already mentioned, the buyer has to do their part and have a fair idea of what they want and what other dealers are asking. Otherwise, it can become an impulse buy.
As the old saying goes, "Those who buy by price alone, get what they deserve."
