Folks here were very helpful last fall when we were looking to buy a new TT . We are planning on towing with a LandRover . We had our heart set on the Primetime Tracer 267BH. I received many opinions about the LR's shorter wheelbast, weight capacity,etc. To make this brief, we did not buy the TT .We have been looking again. And no Hubby still won't trade his Rover so not an option ..:RAnyways, I am now looking at the next smaller Tracer. So heres the question ...The orginal Tracer was 5300 lbs dry and 29 feet, the smaller is 4900 dry weight and 26 feet. ( approx. ) . Does 3 feet and 400 lbs make a substantial difference when towing ???? Please excuse the silly question, we came from a Class C so this is all new .....I will not stop until I have a new TT in my driveway !!!

Which Land Rover do you have? I'll assume it's a newer one with the 7700 lb tow rating. In short as long as your not overweight and willing to get a good hitch you can tow whatever you'd like. I went with a Propride and tow a 30' trailer with no problems whatsoever. The only real problem with the Land Rover is keeping the tongue weight down so that you don't go over the GVW which is very easy to do. I think I only have about 1,000 lbs to play with and that doesn't include my 240 lb frame...Another user on here (Kevinomaha) recently bought a trailer in similar size and weight to mine and tows with an LR3 and Propride as well. Nothing but good things to say.

We have a 2009 LR3, yes it has the 7700 lb rating . I just saw that another member pulls a 29 foot trailer with a Rover too . Where were you guys last year ?!! :BSeriously, we even went to the Landrover dealership and they were not much help and I quote, " Well we never had anyone that towed a trailer with one." sigh ......We were planning on putting on the WD hitch . I do not know the specifics anymore . Please tell me hows it been towing with a Rover. That original Tracer is still calling my name ....

What do you think of the 5300 dry weight ? Pushing it ?

I tow with a 2002 LR Disco II and I personally wouldn't go over 23' - it is a very short wheelbase!WoodGlue

I still have a D2. I'll always have a Land Rover, have had 5 over the years. Probably get a newer one in a couple of years.

Just to clarify, is the dealer selling you their "top of the line" hitch? If so you don't want it!! Both Hensley and ProPride do NOT sell through dealers, only direct on their websites. You need to order the hitch yourself and either bring it to the dealer of have it shipped to the dealer.

There are NO other hitches that have the same design as the Hensley and ProPride, no matter what anyone says. Call BS if the dealer says he has one "just as good".

I ordinarily wouldn't make a big deal about this, but IMO it's a must with the short WB of the LR.

So true on the dealer hitches. As a side note I'll be selling my Propride in just a few weeks. Love the trailer and the LR3 pulling it however we recently sold our house and decided to start full-timing for a while. Have a new F-350 and have a Redwood 38BR on order. Once I get that I'll be trying to sell the Propride. Sorry for the shameless plug!

Seriously, they are an expensive truck to keep up. I always use Land Rover Genuine Parts, so that's more added expense.

I love this truck so I'll be keeping it up forever I'd imagine!

I wanted to share a quick update on our setup of the lr3 and passport 2650. I was using the stock hitch receiver on the lr3 and it just cracked and is no longer usable. I believe it was from hitting the emergency trailer brake but I was never really comfortable with the hitch receiver because it was rated at either 500 lbs or 700 depending on which documentation you trusted.

Anyway I installed a curt hitch which is rated at 800 lbs with a weight distribution and feels much more solid. Not sure if i will feel a difference but better piece of mind. I've towed with the lr3 7 times now and have never been concerned with power and with the propride hitch I've never had any sway.

Hopefully the new receiver will make this a great setup (until I get a pickup).
