You will get much better mpg by slowing down 5mph than changing tires. The slow down doesn't cost money and comes with the added benefit of being safer.
Better mileage but not safer.
Research shows the greater the deviation above or below the average flow of traffic the greater the risk of accident. 5 mph above or below the average speed on a highway is a small increase in risk, compared to 10 or 15 mph, so it may be worth the extra risk for the extra mileage.
Numerous multi vehicle pile ups occur while people are keeping up with the flow of traffic...........
