So the Cummins 5.9 is good with 2100 for 500,000 miles, with proper Maintenance?
No problem at all though the sweet spot for the 5.9 was about 1600-1700 rpm.
One thing to remember, the 5.9 engine internal components that wear from abuse are the same regardless if the engine was destined for the truck, construction equipment or even marine engines. The HP/torque in the truck is greatly limited due to the available cooling. In the marine environment where cooling isn't an issue, the engine was designed to produce over 900 ft-lbs of torque. And in marine life, seeing 2500-3000 rpm for long stretches isn't uncommon.
The 5.9 in a pickup was probably one of the biggest under-utilized engine ever. Do your maintenance, including 100k valve clearance adjustments and enjoy the drive.
