Leaf Spring Help

I am new to having a travel trailer, I recently purchased a 17BH Viking (made by Forest River). Got it used, one thing I didn't notice when purchased was that the passenger side was just a bit lower than the drivers side, now I see that the passenger side leaf spring is noticeably flatter than the drivers side and there is evidence that the tire rubbed a bit on the wheel well. Obviously I need to replace the leaf spring but where to start? I can measure the general dimensions of it but that doesn't seem to get me close enough to the proper spring (still too many choices). I contacted forest river and they gave me the FR part number, but won't give me any other info and I think the 94.00 price for a leaf spring seems ridiculous. I don't want to get a spring that isn't the correct rating, your thoughts?

Another quick question, if I'm replacing one side, should I replace the other side?

    Here's a link to etrailer's discussion on leaf springs that you may find useful. Some of the RV trailers are manufactured with specifications right at the very edge of the capability of it's components.

    Thank you, Is there a downside to using a higher rated leaf spring if I am replacing both?

    One of my TT leaf springs broke on a trip this past summer. I measured the mounting distance and width. I found a replacement part (and higher spring rate) at a local Tractor Supply for $55. I changed it on my own. After learning how to do that, I ordered 3 more springs at Etrailer for $30ea and changed the rest. Sits a little higher now and does not flex as much when walking around.

    A rougher ride for the trailer maybe.

    I had a broken spring on my trailer with springs rated at 1,750 lbs for it's 3,500 lbs axles. Replaced all 4 springs with same OEM rated specs and springs appeared too flat. Weighed the trailer and the axles were not overloaded. Subsequently replaced all 4 springs with 2,200 lbs springs with the same length spec and now the spring bow looks normal. Raised the trailer 2". My conclusion is that the spring makers are over rating their springs. Go for a heavier rated spring.
