Wayne,
Your reasoned and expert post on LED's popped up while I was typing a reply. My only question is: do the 10-30V LED's produce a varying light output at different voltages?
jefe 4x4 wrote:I do not see any difference in brightness. I am limited in my knowledge in their construction, but my understanding is that they have a regulator that determines the voltage. My guess is that they are designed to work at 10-volts, and the regulator does not allow the voltage to exceed the 10 volts. That is my guess only, do not take it as fact.
Are they brighter at 15V and dimmer at 10V? Are they worth the Shekels?
I think they are worth the Shekels for a couple of reasons. The 12-volt only LEDs will have a much shorter life if used with high voltage, such as when you are charging the battery. What is probably more important is they get hot enough to burn the board/fixture if on for a long period with high voltage.
The most recent LEDs I purchased have really impressed me, but I do not think they are regulated. To save money, you could use the regulated LEDs in the main fixtures, and non-regulated in seldom used areas.

It may be that I'm in 'intro level' LED's here, and will report what I find.

There are different brightness and color of light produced by the LEDs. My preference is the bright white or cool white. I do not like the yellow. I am still too cheap to install a fluorescent type light fixture with a LED strip.
