Length of trailer

When someone says they have a trailer that is, for example, 21 feet long, do they mean the total length from tongue to bumper, or the box length?

  • I use the trailer box length when referring to my camper (29ft.) unless I'm inputting information while searching for a site to book at a campground. Reserve America asks for this information. In those cases I use from the tip of the tongue to the back of the spare tire attached to the bumper (35ft.) I want to make sure the campsite is deep enough for my trailer. To confuse the matter even further, the model of my trailer is "27RKS". I thought it was 27ft. long for two years until I actually got out and measured it.
  • Depends on the mfg, I guess. Nothing in the RV industry is "exact".
