Life of a trailer slide out?

Hi all,

My wife and I just retired and are planning to travel full-time across the USA for the next couple of years. We plan to stay at each location roughly 3-4 days which means we will visit approximately 200 camp sites (365 days x 2 years /3-4 nights per stay). We are considering the Lance 1985 or 1995 but concerned about the reliability and longevity (life) of the slide out mechanism.

Based upon the above numbers we will extend and retract the slide at least 200 times during this trip. What is the projected life (number of extend/retract cycles) for this slide mechanism? Does 200 cycles exceed the life (or come close)?

Or should we just get a trailer without a slide so as to not have to worry about a slide failure?

  • 18 years using 3 slides, just a bit of sag on the big one, other than that, no problems.
  • A slide makes a smaller trailer big. Wouldn’t buy a TT without at least one slide.
  • Oh wow, spending that much time in an RV.....a slide is paramount.

The wife and I have been RVing for over 20 years and on our 4th trailer with slides and yet to have an issue with any of them.

A slide is only in operation for a few seconds each way so excessive wear shouldn't be an issue.

Lance builds an upper end trailer, enjoy.
