Unfortunately, I think a lot of the "bigger is better" train of thought is ego and/or appearance. Watch some of these home shows on TV and we always wonder what in the world 2 people or even add a couple of kids, need with a 12,000 sq ft house. Why do people need a monster vehicle with 2 video screens to entertain the kids? Don't know what happened to just riding along talking to your family or enjoying the scenery. I'll concede that the coloring book has been replaced by the tablet and that's progress.....I guess. A phrase heard way to often on TV - at least to suit me - "this is a must-have" for whatever. Or a "must-do". No it's not! As noted earlier, our ROO 23SS with a box size of 20' 4", or so, suited us perfectly and allowed guests to have a bed also. Other factors figured into our move to Rocky at 26'4" and we've enjoyed him....didn't need the extra space, but it's nice.
Don't know if you'd consider it getting older or gaining wisdom, but we're doing the reverse with our lives and feel very comfortable that this is the best thing for us. We're unloading Rocky, unloading our current mid-size home, unloading all this "stuff" we've accumulated and moving into a very nice, comfortable 1200 sq ft home, minus mountains of stuff to maintain, clean, repair, etc. I do have to plead guilty to not being ready to give up my little car....3 drivers/3 vehicles is not actually needed, but my little convertible is heading to FL with us.
I have trouble understanding when folks say they want "more comfort" in their trailers/"campers". Didn't most of us start with a tent or PUP and that is where we learned to love camping? 4x4, I agree totally with your views. So I guess we'll both get slammed, but that's ok. We think we're right, right?
