I always wanted to see the mountains, so I have decided that this year I will finally do it!
I live in Winnipeg, and the farthest I have ever drove was 4h (Ontario lakes)
Using Google Map, my trip will be about 1450km (900 miles) one way.... about 14h give or take without stopping (so 16.5h including small brakes I believe)
I have a wrangler 4dr and a small light pop-up (really easy to tow)
2 adults and 2 little ones (2&5)
Here is the question:
Should I split the trip 8h drive a day or just keep going?
I really don't want to lose 2 days (one on each way), but I will if is advised to.
1. You have to decide what kind of trip you want to experience. Marathon vs normal RV
trip. It is really your choice, both are doable but the experiences will be quite different.
Most RVers towing trailers or driving class A or B's will generally drive about 400 to
450 miles per day or about 6 hrs. Yes you can drive further but generally you will experience be tired and beat up. The marathon trip can be much harder on 2 young kids and their parents. If you have to drive 900 miles per day, switch drivers every 2 hrs., stop at every rest stop and let the kids run around while you doing some stretching and rubbing.
2. alternative plan, fly to the area you want to see. rent an RV and enjoy your mountains, then fly home. Which ever you choose, have a great trip:)
Thanks.
