Look Ma, no Jacks !!

So, I've been rolling without jacks now for over a year. Camper stays on somewhat permanently. Only put them back on once when I had to have brake lines replaced. I do carry the jacks bundled up in the back floorboard (no passengers back there). I carry the nuts/washers and a speed wrench in case i have to re-install on the road, probably takes 10 min.

What do others do that run without jacks? Leave jacks at home? I remember reading a thread where someone made a nifty bracket to hold the jacks anchored to the rear seat belt brackets.

I do feel less paranoid about ripping a jack off on a rock or a root or something. The TC is now exactly 7' wide now without jacks.

Mine are manual, use a dewalt drill to raise/lower.

  • looks a lot cleaner and 10 mins to even 30 mins isn't bad to have this nice clean look.
  • Yes, I know the feeling. A stump tore off a rear jack once in the middle of Nowhere, Virginia on a Sunday ...

Incredibly lucky right after that tho', driving thru a tiny town trying to get back to civilization and found a welder/rancher that was 'sorta open' and he repaired the anchor. Took three hours, and he charged me $60 -- and back on the road. I was thinking $300 as he worked on it Sunday ?? - but not so.

I don't ride without jacks, but am a LOT more careful with it now.
  • I too run without jacks mounted . They are stored between the camper and head board on a flatbed , good place for the weight . I have extensions on mine to clear the flatbed so they would really stick out . Without jacks camper and flatbed are at 92"
