I am looking at getting a tow vehicle by the end of year. One of the trucks on my list is a 2013 F-150 SuperCrew, Max Tow, EcoBoost with 1766# payload (door sticker). I am concerned reading many of the F-150 forums about engine issues including power loss and going into limp mode. When looking at dealer inventory, I see many EcoBoost trucks and not many with the v8 available which could hint at a known problem. I read many positive reviews on this forum vs. others.
I had the same concerns. The problem with the intercooler it's still not fixed and now the government is doing an investigation on the issue. There is also patent right issues with Ford being sued over the Ecoboost design.
I test drove several ecoboost trucks and still like the drivability of the 5.0l better. No turbo lag is the biggest reason.I hate turbo lag that causes you to give more throttle, that then causes the wheels to break lose when the boost does kick in. Not real good when pulling a trailer and lose traction due to this. Add all the condensation issues and the 5.0l was a much better option for me. I even was able to get a better 1582# payload.
I recommend against the ecoboost and recommend the 5.0l or the 6.2l if you need the max tow package.
