Go to a 3500 for the payload. You might be surprised at how little you have on a 2500 that is optioned out. I have a 2014 Ram 3500 Megacab with 4074lbs payload. I have the factory 5th wheel prep and you can get a curt or B&W to drop into it, or get a picture frame adaptor and then put any isr hitch on top of that (might run into the fiver not being level though so watch it as the new trucks are tallllllll). All of the big three HD trucks are nice...drive them all and see what you like best
Assuming your truck's GVWR is 11,700#, that means it weighs 7,626# empty. Mine is a 2500 crew cab 6.4L Hemi and it weighs a hair under 7000# for just over 3,000# payload.
Since the max GVWR for a 2500 is 10,000#, and a Cummins megacab 2500 should weigh the same as a 3500 SRW...that means a 2500 CTD Megacab would have around 2,300# payload give or take.
Sounds about right!
