My cars are always stick, trucks automatic. New (last 25 years) automatics seem to be pretty bomb-proof and work very well. I hate to think about clutch lifetime when starting up a steep hill fully loaded with camper and trailer. My Mini is a ton of fun to drive with the six speed manual, the truck wouldn't be.
