My F350 will automatically downshift when going downhill if I tap the brakes and tow/haul mode is turned on. I can also manually drop it onto a lower gear (labeled 2 and 1, don't know what that really represents) if that isn't enough.
It seems to make reasonable choices going up steep hills to maintain ~45-50 mph.
