They have come so far in fact, that you do not have to replace them every 10 years or so. :) You can abuse one into submission, but I can do that even quicker with a manual.
You should not pick one over the other on the basis of reliability. I think repair frequency will show they are equally reliable. It then comes down to operational issues (the differences have disappeared over the last 10 years) or personal preference, which will always be there.
