I bought the '03 Dodge 6 sp manual that's in my signature to pull a heavy fifth wheel RV. The manual transmission worked well to pull the combined load of nearly 23K lbs. I bought the Lance TC and later got rid of the fifth wheel and then realized I no longer needed or wanted the manual to haul the camper, which when loaded was well below the 11.5K GVWR of the truck. So to me it depended on the load.
If I ever bought another truck TC combo, it would definitely be an automatic.
