I think you're going to be miserable towing with a pathfinder in the mountains. I had a '07 frontier, V6 with a 5 spd auto trans, towing a 2700# (actual weight) with that truck was not fun at all. At least the '07 has a 'dumb' transmission, no tow/haul mode so I had to pretty much manage the transmission at all times or end up in 2nd gear WOT/nearly redline to get back into 3rd gear.
That being said the pathfinder may have lower gearing, better trans (6spd with tow/haul). However you're also talking about a heavier trailer than I was towing.
Perhaps you don't head into the mountains at all, so maybe not an issue. Just my thoughts having towed a lighter trailer with a vehicle that in theory has more towing capacity (6500#).
