Agreed, but who's talking about a "car van" with a 3500 lb tow rating? :h The OP said quite clearly in her original post -
"I've got a 5000lb tow capacity (2014 Nissan Pathfinder 4WD), so don't want to go much over 3500lb GVWR." Her biggest issue isn't so-called "tow rating" but having sufficient real world payload capacity to handle people, cargo, and trailer tongue weight transferred to the vehicle without exceeding the vehicle's actual payload capacity and as a consequence it's gross rear axle weight rating.
