v10, I hope you're right but I've never seen an insurance company play fair. A year ago, my wife put her work car in a ditch. Because she works for local Government they required an accident report. There was no damage to the car. When my insurance bill came due, it went up $500 a year for the next 3 years. When I asked why, I was told that my wife had a reportable accident and accidents follow the driver, not the policy holder. So even though they didn't pay out one dime, they dinged me because my wife is on my policy. As for the Aluminum issue, I just know from the experience my friend had. The repair facility told him that if they had been able to fix the dents in his hood, it would have been about $350 but because they had to replace it, the additional cost was over $2 grand. That money has to be made back somehow.
I agree with everything you say here Rob, especially......
"I've never seen an insurance company play fair."
When I posted and mentioned the $2000 repair issue, I was going to add "And they will get that back with premium increases" which is what you UNFAIRLY got tagged with.. :R
But you kinda support what I said when you mention the hood repair job. The insurance will go up like you experienced with a claim. Doesn't really matter if $350 or $2000 (or ZERO as in your case); it will increase premiums for a few years.
I feel the original premiums will be similar on these new aluminum trucks to other brands. What may cost owners more is a $350 repair like you mentioned which a guy may not report and pay cash, but will now file a claim if the hail repair guys can't fix on the cheap like a steel hood, or fender, or whatever.
But ya, insurance companies will get their (your) money in the end. :W
This is about third time I have posted this info because keep seeing comments from folks who really don't know what there saying is factual when they talk about HUGE premium increase cause a vehicle has a high aluminum build content.
I don't think it will happen.
