Those pics have to be stored somewhere, and that storage costs money. It's entirely up to the owner of the site whether the expense is justified or not.

Either images are part of the forum function or it's a text only service. A hybrid that depends on a 3rd party service is unfamiliar to most users these days. The vast majority of other forums out there don't have a problem hosting their own images.
But as I said. If switching to a platform that hosted images locally meant loss of the info already here, it's not a good idea IMHO.
