LT or P Tires ?
My old stock Wrangler AT "P" rated 265 70R 17 tires are up for replacement. I know the "LT" are optimum for towing, but was wondering if I really need them? Cost is not a factor between the P and L...

I think the biggest concern would not be the extra load rating so much as the tire construction. By that I mean that once you have a tire rated for load, the next thing I would look for is contact area. That is the so called “patch” which helps determine stopping distance, wear, etc.
Perhaps the larger patch comes with the increase load rating. I have never measured the tread width on different load range tires of the same size.
