As much as you people have condemned Fast Eagle in the past and he has been right on this issue just as he is in his earlier statement in this thread…
I this isn’t to hijack the thread, if the thread gets closed for posting true and correct information, or legitimate concerns and opinions, simply because others don’t like it or don’t agree, that says something more about the moderating, or if it gets closed because the responses to that information or opinion becomes less than cordial, because others don’t like or want to agree, or just want to justify their opinion, that may say more about the forum members posting to the thread…
And I do believe there are some that would rather force the thread to closing rather than have even a small stick put in their spoke…
Yes the liability issue is one of my concerns, and Jim you say it doesn’t even exist… well there is a reason the mfg. WILL NOT RECOMEND A LT TIRE AS A DIRECT REPLACEMENT TO A OEM ST tire…
The only logical reason and I might point out one reason offered by several of those closely associated with the tire industry have also stated, that the added liability is the reason…
I have asked simple questions like if the tire mfg. will not assume the added liability, why should I???
Are you suggesting that should get the thread locked down with no legitimate response to a easy question like that??? :h
Jim you are the first one to try to answer by saying if you are not honest and forthcoming in questioning the mfg. that you could get the favorable response you want… really… I mean really…
yet you acknowledge if I ask about using a LT tire as a ST replacement they will not recommend it at all…
So yes I say it is an issue… GY and the others are in the business of selling tires, they have no reason what so ever to not advertise and market the LT tire as a trailer tire if in fact it is a superior tire for that use, other than the added liability reasons…
They will allow the vehicle mfg. to recommend them and use them as OEM equipped, and they will allow you to assume the responsibility and liability of using them on your own…
Then there is the warrantee issue, that doesn’t list the use as a covered application…
The answer to the OP’s question,
“He asked if he could go to any LT tire as long as they had the correct load carrying capability.”
The answer is yes as long as the term, correct load carrying capability is used correctly to…
What the law says is the tire replacement be it a LT or a ST tire must equal or better ALL of the specifications on the tire placard… they are the minimums…
A Wrangler HT in size LT235/75R15 LR C rated for 1,985 pounds wouldn’t be a suitable replacement for a ST225/75R15 LR C rated for 2150@50...
HI GEORGE, hope it was a great trip...
