It is difficult to believe that a for profit tire builder would build the better tire and not market and advertise it for use on a light duty trailer if they believe it is truly a better tire for the application….
And that GY that carries both would market only the lessor quality and the lessor safe tire for trailer use if they in fact believe the LT is the better or safer choice…
It is all about liability… worth repeating… it’s all about liability… and little to do with quality…
Yet when this is mentioned the LT advocates go into the attack mode… accuse anyone the would question their ideas, and accuse them of loading the question or badgering the mfg. to get favorable answers…
Example…
“You badgered Vanco with the more canned questions until they gave you the answer you were looking for”
Or
When in fact they are the ones loading the questions to get the favorable answers…
“If your really interested in using LT tires don't back the tire makers or their dealers into the liability corner. “
Come on these are big boys (professionals) paid to answer questions…
Why is it, They are more than willing to accept the status quo, the go and spend another $1500+ to address it themselves… why is it most often not even an option from the trailer mfg.???
I can’t imagine a salesman selling a new trailer and after penning the deal says, oh by the way you owe me another $1500 if you want tires that are safe enough to get the trailer home… or you will have to stop on the way home and buy safe tires… amazingly this is a accepted practice, and what is being advocated here…
Yet that is essentially what happens with every trailer sent off the lot if I believe everything the LT advocates say, but our silence is deafening at the showroom…
There are no loaded questions used to draw these type of responses from a tire builder… not at all… loaded questions are not needed, only straight honset ones...
QUESTION:
I want to put Michelin LT tires of sufficient size and load capacity on my trailer but I am concerned about some of the warranty language…
Can I use properly size and rated Michelin LT tires on my trailer???
Thank you for your time in this matter…
ANSWER:
Most trailer tires are ST type tires that carry more weight and are designed for trailers.
If the trailer maker specifies an ST type tire then using an LT type tire would be a misapplication and would void the warranty.
If the trailer maker specifies an LT type tire would be approved then and only then would the LT tire be used.
If you have other questions or concerns feel free to give us a call at the number listed below.
We appreciate your business and thank you for choosing Michelin.
and
We do not recommend using light truck tires on trailers that specify ST tires. If the trailer manufacturer calls for ST tires, it is important to replace with ST tires in order to maintain the load requirement.
Thank you for choosing BFGoodrich.
and
Thank you for contacting Customer Relations at Continental Tire the Americas, LLC.
We no longer manufacture ST tires, and ((the Vanco line is not a suitable alternative)).
We would recommend searching for a dedicated ST tire line.

When looking into warranties, I find nothing that includes trailers or trailer use and being silence DOES NOT MEAN INCLUSION…
More important is the warranties all seem to have a clause that makes all of these e-mail responses pro or con, pretty much just words on the screen in the real world anyway…
“No representative, employee or retailer has the authority to make or imply
any representation, promise or agreement, which in any way varies the terms of
this warranty. “
the only unambiguous thing in the warranty…
but I am expected to believe there is no warranty issue, no misapplication issue from an internet post…
I have only asked for legitimate information from a mfg. web site, or catalog…
And for this I am accused of hijacking the thread, causing the thread to be locked, and spreading misinformation…
I have provided information from mfg. websites supporting what I have said…
If true and complete or honest information or opinion is forbidden and not to be discussed here, I have failed to find it in the rules…
Sorry but I believe a question deserves nothing less…
if it gets carried on it is most likely due to someone with no collaborating information trying to justify their decisions or trying to argue a point or a belief…
for the same reason I won’t drive without insurance, I will not accept the labiality and the responsibility of the tire mfg. ,with well over 40 years of trailering and good tire care practices I have never had a on the road catastrophic tire failure so don’t think I need to…
