Does anyone use a macerator pump rather than the 3" hose?
From the videos it looks pretty good.
I seldom use my stinky slinky, but still take it camping. The Macerator is not bullet proof, and can fail, so the stinky slinky can still do the job. I have been using mine since about 2006, and it has failed about 4 times. I have discovered if you run about a table spoon of oil (cooking, motor oil, transmission fluid, or ...) after each use you will reduce if not eliminate failures. There is a screw on the bottom of the pump that can be turned with a screwdriver. Turn it the wrong direction, and you will destroy the rubber/buna impeller. It typically cost $40 to $50. I made this mistake two times.

I'm planning on using one for my toyhauler that I keep parked on 5 acres I have in the mountains where I spend a night or 2 each week.
I thought of drilling a hole about 5' deep and dumping in that. With the little use, the water would seep into the ground and the waste would decompose.
May not be a good idea. Some folks might take exception to it and the fines could get pretty ugly.

With the pump I could run a hose 50-100' away from the RV as it slopes down.
You could do that, but the question is what would be the consequences if it was discovered?

What are some of the better brands and any pros and cons?
You can build your own, but I question the savings after buying the necessary parts. A Macerator designed for RV use is very simple and turn key. This one
Flojet 18555-000A, Portable RV Waste Pump, 12 Volt DC, Macerator, Includes Carrying Case, is plug and play (switch, fuse, RV adapter, water flush inlet, and case).
