Vehicles are a lot longer lasting than in the past, but you can't get past almost 20 years old. Bound to have some issues even if well kept and lower miles.
If it's fuel supply, it's fairly straightforward to diagnose and no, you likely won't get any codes. Since it's happening pretty regularly, hook up a pressure guage to the fuel rail Schrader valve. Run it into the cab and see if pressure drops when it stumbles.
And pull codes first, if it's electrical, like the cps, it likely threw a code.
