thanks for the suggestions. I also read of mixed results with the aluminum finned pans, and realize the vast majority of folks pulling heavy loads have never even heard of these accessories.
I'm measuring my temps in the output line from the TC, the hottest temps in the system. They are often higher than I like, but after talking with several of the custom transmission suppliers, I may not be that bad. The newer synthetic fluids such as used by Dodge will apparently withstand higher temps. Obviously the temps I'm seeing are going to be lower as the fluid circulates back through the cooler to the transmission.
My truck only has 60K miles on it and the transmission is showing no signs of slippage or failure. I will not hesitate to have the TC swapped out to an improved single or (less likely) triple disk TC at about 100K.
