The notion of larger trans pan has discussed at length on truck forums for the primary 3 brands. Almost all data shows that they aren't necessary and don't help enough to offset the cost of the pan and extra fluid. Bigger/better auxiliary coolers are the key. That picture of the large cooler doesn't tell the whole story. Just because the cooler is big doesn't mean it's effective. If you have an aux cooler already, see if you can find the specs and compare it to some quality aftermarket units. Also, the trans cooler is like the AC condenser and radiator in that it can get covered up in dirt and grime and need to be cleaned once in a while. I was having trouble with my AC at idle and found out that the front side of the radiator had a thick layer of grime, which prevented the condenser from cooling effectively.
