Magnets for the cargo doors

My several year old Nash 17k that I recently purchased has the little fold open clips to hold open the cargo doors. New RVs have magnets.

The little clips require a two handed operation to open and stops the door, or to close it. I put an end to that by installing the magnets.

Here's a short video of the upgrade

  • Another source of great magnets -- hard drives from defunct computers! My son is in IT and harvests dozens of them each year. Very powerful -- if you are holding two of them, you might get your finger pinched. Don't ask how I know this.

Where do you get the Magnets?

    RV Stores sell them.

There's two brands that I've seen so far:
    RV Designer (higher cost)
    Prime Products

    I used Prime Products brand.

I wish I would have thought of the tape idea prior to screwing the first one in to the wall.

My video above shows the second one I installed. I have another on to install still, on the generator compartment.

did the same on our storage doors and added one for the entry door as well. Nice addition. Used VHB tape and adhesive activator to install them.
  • I just added some to two of my outside storage doors. Very pleased after just the one camping trip. One-handed operation is the noticeable benefit plus no accidentally dropping the door on heads! I need one more pair of magnets for my last door.
