Main Door Lock Upgrade

The lock/deadbolt on my TT is absolutly horrible. The mechinisim is sloppy and it is hard to tell when the deadbolt is properly engaged or iven if the door is locked. I visited it yesterday, and the only thing holding the door shut was the folded hand rail. Believe me, I'm manic when checking on the door being locked when leaving it. Has anyone done an upgrade to the door lock?

  • Check if your key says FIC. My locks are FICs and although they're not in list (number on the key)they're defective and the company is sending me new locks. I had the same problem, never sure if the deadbolt is engaged or not. Check at
www.fastecindustrial.com to see if your locks are affected.
  • If it is a TriMark you WILL get locked out. Once it starts getting sloppy the very next step is when the cheap pot metal they use on the inside breaks off and you either get locked in your RV or locked out.

Been there done that TWICE. Once with original equipment and the second time with a new replacement....which is NOT cheap. I had to bend the door frame back to get it out.

If it's a Trimark I understand they now make a steel replacement part for the one that breaks. I highly suggest you look it up and get it replaced ASAP. Can't tell you what a nightmare it is when that breaks and you can't get in or out when you are on the road camping. Good Luck!
  • If it is a FIC Lock there is a recall on some of the locks. Do a search and you will find it. Call them if the key number isn't listed and they will double check because not all the lock numbers made the posted list. If it listed, they will send you free replacements.
  • No, but I've been considering an electronic combination lock for mine.
