I think this truck will always be a problem child.
It appears you had mechanic working on it with no clue. Lord knows what all is now screwed up. A long block won't fix all of that other stuff. Once that is in, I doubt that will be the end of it and you will likely shell out more money on it as all those gremlins are tracked down and fixed. I generally do my own wrenching, and I would not want this project.
