I went back and forth on this for a long time as well. I crunched the numbers, did all the different scenarios, made spreadsheets etc... When it came down to it, I wanted the truck because I love driving a truck and I love towing. To test it, I drove my wife's Toyota Corolla for two weeks. I hated it :) That convinced me that the extra price I pay to drive the truck is worth it for the enjoyment I get. Plus, if it took me 3 years to break even with a small car, how long would that $3,000 or $4,000 car last beyond that?
