Mattress help

Looking for an alternative to replacing my mattress. We have a fullsize xl mattress (54x80). I'm looking for a decent topper.

Anyone have success with toppers or am I wasting my money, should I just replace the mattress?

Any advice on where to purchase either one is appreciated.

  • Got the blue gel foam super expensive topper from Costco on our old trailer mattress, the mattress was one of the low quality thin spring mattresses. Having the topper was too much squish. The edges weren't firm because of the terrible mattress under it. My back always hurt. If your topping one of those types of mattresses I'd just get a new mattress.
  • My TT mattress was the typical cheap piece of junk they all seem to put in. Was FT for many months and tired of a crummy sleep on it. I replaced the mattress with something decent and slept better but certainly nothing to write home to mother about.

So I went to Ikea and bought their deluxe topper and put it in. It actually helped. My body is permanently damaged, lower back, shoulders and more after being hit by a truck and a drunk driver so I need all the help I can get. The Ikea topper was a good choice. It helped more than the mattress did.
I would buy another one if the need came up.
  • Found the topper to be of little help. SO, I have a friend that works at a foam rubber factory. Had him make me a 4" simi firm piece, the same size of my mattress. And instead of putting it on top, I put it under the mattress. MUCH more comfortable. A 4" topper, put under. Would do the same. Cause I know few folks have friends that make foam rubber.

BTW. He only charged me $35.00 for it. Works GREAT
  • Got ours at Bed bath & beyond about$ 180 with the 20% off it si almost as good as our sleep number at home

The stock mattress in our rig was rock hard so we added a 3" thick Novaform memory foam gel topper and now the bed feels like a luxurious pillow top. We're in Canada and purchased it at our local Costco but I notice Costco in the US sells the same topper. Works really well for us so I'd have to highly recommend it. :B

    Ditto.

You can find similar toppers at Walmart that work just fine.

  • Got ours at Costco, works great, not worried about a new mattress anymore.

  • We went "cheap" - an eggcrate foam topper (1 1/2 - 2") from Walmart, and over that a mattress cover with some batting in it, perhaps an inch or so. Works well for me; hubby says it's a bit hard still, so we'll be looking for a new eggcrate for next year. Remember, if you get too thick, you won't be able to use fitted sheets.
  • I have 3 of these in short queen.
    hese are full http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EQHW6UK?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00

  • Toppers are great!!
Go with a 3" or greater.

    Overstock.com has some great options.
