Mattress toppers

We just purchased a new tt and are looking for input or reviews on mattress toppers. Is anyone using the bamboo ones? They seem really spendy and wonder why.

We like memory foam and it performs so much better with a solid base under it, rather than a poor quality coil mattress. Besides, we don't want to deal with the topper shifting under the mattress, etc.

Haven't found either to be the case - the coil mattress in our Coachmen is about as crappy as one could be but the memory foam / gel topper changes that completely and has never shifted at all - perhaps the fitted sheet we use over it solves that issue. :@
  • The first thing you should know is all manufactures put in a cheap excuse for a mattress. The second thing is.. if you are not going to sleep on it a lot then go cheap. BUT if you are like us that use our TT a lot (6 months a year) Go get a proper mattress for a mattress store. Our mattress at home is a Sterns and Foster set about 2 grand new for a king why would we sleep on much less in the TT?
  • In a previous camper, we tried a mattress topper and it turned out to be the biggest pain the "back side" ever. It kept sliding around, and fit uneven. It was horrible and we paid a hefty price for it.

We got smart then and threw it out and just bought a brand new mattress that was comfortable. And we never looked back. The next camper had a queen bed and a really thin mattress. We just bit the bullet and got a good mattress and was done with it.

Our current camper, actually came with a really good mattress. Five years now and it's still doing great! Factory installed! No complaints.

Advise: throw out your current mattress and just replace it with something that 100% comfortable. After all, you spend 1/3rd of your life on it! That's too much time out of your life to be uncomfortable!

My advice ... your recommendation is based on the presumption that a mattress topper isn't a viable solution but as some of us have said - it certainly is. :B I just can't answer the OP's specific question about bamboo mattress toppers as I've never tried one and have no reason to since the memory foam / gel version we have works great. :)
  • Thank you for responses. I really like the idea of extending the sleeping platform.
  • I put an egg crate topper from a fabric store on ours and it made a huge improvement. I didn`t want to replace the mattress because it is heated. its been 12 years now and still great.
  • I have been really happy with a Costco mattress topper for years. I put a matress protector over both the topper and mattress before making the bed, and that holds the topper in place beautifully.
