2 to 3" memory foam with gel topper. Factory foam mattress are junk. Bad part: storing the gel toppers when closed up for travel or turtled.

I was thinking a mattress topper but never thought of the air mattress so we'll try it out first

which brand/model are you talking about?

nearly all hybrid owners at least get a mattress topper, which is what we use.
never felt the need to replace them, since they are heated mattresses.

We got a queen foam mattress topper from WalMart and it works great...on top of the standard mattress and all wrapped with a fitted sheet.
