Doug, yep, I've met up with Bryan a time or two and always threaten to christen his camper the right way too. ;) I am hopeful we can meet up during your trip if not AT the expo sometime before or after.
I'm amazed they are saying they are full but it can be a zoo in the back of the dry camping area. The RV spots yes, but surprised about the dry camping area. There are also nearby USFS CGs and even boondocking further away in the NF so you can always go and just buy the day passes to attend most of what you'd want to anyway. If this is the year to go for you, then go.
Yep, Btggraphix shows up sort of like out of no where and then he comes over and drinks all my beer, belches, then leaves.
As for the camping situation, that exhaustipated is referring to, it is only for the small campground at the entrance to Mormon Lake. It is always fully booked ahead of time, as is the vending camping area, which is the dry camping area he refers to. It is used for staff, volunteers and overflow from the exhibitors.
OX15 is known for it's camping out on the dry lake bed (well, it is really green grass and full of "divots," big ones at that). Those are first come first serve. Without those camping spots, Overland Expo would not be the event it is/has become. Some are just looking for a more organized camping experience and that is what the campground provides. Every year there is discussion that they will organize this area too and maybe 2015 is the year that they get this done too.
