You sure? The higest mountain is 12,000 ft. We have roads, that are 4,000 ft up not far from me, highest highway roughly 5000ft, No they are much higher in New Zealand. I do not know where you got your information from

They must be like europeans (like me i am from there) they take their time building roads and go through, use tunnels for big jobs,Americans are not patient enough and go over the top.In europe you park at the bottom and take a cable car if you need to see the top.
In america there is no time , you drive to the top ,get out look around 5 minutes get back in your car and continue ,the continent is vast and -hot - high- and vast .
The asian truckees you post up are used for inner city jobs ,I see them mostly in the employ of small landscape jobbers delivering shrubs and mulch, thats all they are good for here.
Too slow ,I see them on inner city expressways 2 burly guys in front white as a sheet in fear for their lives :-)
