Microwave door swing?

Just wondering if anyone has ever found a RV microwave with any other hinge location than on the left? (right or bottom would be preferable). The kitchen in my Outback 326RL is set up in such a way that the left handed hinged microwave is very difficult to load/unload.
  • What is an RV microwave?

The microwave in your RV is the same as any Microwave in a residential setting. If you don't like the hinge on the left...remove the microwave, measure it, go buy one of similar size with the hinge on the right.

I have never seen a microwave with the hinges on the bottom (or top for that matter). Doesn't mean they do not exist, just means I have never seen one.

EDIT: On second thought...yes I have. I seem to remember seeing the door swing downward (bottom hinged). Been a long time...but I do think they exist (or did at one time).
  • Just did a quick search. The Google found a couple. I've never seen one.
    Good luck.
  • By "rv" microwave, I simply meant one designed to be installed in an rv, with the front mounting plate. I obviously know the microwave itself is the same as a residential unit. I did find one counter top Model that was bottom hinged and will fit into the cabinet opening in my tt. It just wouldn't be able to be secured in the fashion as the original. I'm sure I could come up with something. Right hand hinged would be ideal for my setup. And I could mount it upside down. But how would I keep the food up on the carousel?

I would think Most is not all will be on the left due to the fact that most people are right handed for control panel use. Bottom hinge not included
  • i know it's not what you asked about, but they do make microwave drawers, that would be installed in a lower cabinet. any storage space lost below would be gained in the old microwave spot. just a thought if you haven't considered it.
  • And I realize most people are right handed. I am too. It's the location of the microwave that's a problem in my tt. The microwave is located on an outside wall (in a slide), but directly above a peninsula countertop. You approach the microwave from the left and have to reach out over the countertop to the right hand handle. Then reach around the door to load/unload. If you want to approach microwave from right, you have to go out around the island and into the rear living room. Dumb design. But an opposite door swing would fix it.
