milage question

I have been on the forum for a few years now and keep reading about people saying they have x number of miles on the trailer. How are you arriving at this? There is no odometer on the trailer. is it just a guess calculated from all the trips you took? Sounds like a lot of paper work to keep track of miles.. Answers please.

  • Thanks for the replies. I figured it was manual tracking for the most part.
  • Since our truck is used almost exclusively for moving the 5er from one volunteer position to another using Google maps each move can be added together for mileage on the trailer.

Most folks simply write down their starting and ending mileage of the tow vehicle for each trip in total.

Yep, that's how I do it.

  • Every day that we tow the wife writes down the mileage when we leave and when we get where we are going.
  • Most folks simply write down their starting and ending mileage of the tow vehicle for each trip in total.

Some folks write down each individual trip that the tow vehicle is actually towing.

Other folks install a hubodometer on the trailer to track actual mileage on the trailer.

    And still others, just guestimate..
  • I keep an excel spread sheet of repairs and miles towed. It helps me remember when tires are replaced for example.

Its also a great asset to have a complete repair schedule when you go to sell it. Or when it gets totaled and you have to verify what you did to it.
